The Cooktown Orchid illustrated here; is the Floral Emblem for Queensland Australia.

This beautiful illustration by Vera Scarth-Johnson shows the Cooktown orchid growing on a frangipani tree.

In Australia we have an underground orchid that never sees the light of day, [Rhizanthella Slateri] it relies on ants and other terrestial insects to polinate it.

Orchids have an ancient origin and science indicates that the orchid shared its environment with the dinasours a 100 million years ago.
